Information to members on the Bank Holiday on Monday 19th September to mark Queen Elizabeth II's funeral.

We have had a number of inquiries regarding the bank holiday that has been declared for Monday 19th September to mark Queen Elizabeth II's funeral. Although this day has been declared a national holiday, it does not increase your statutory holiday entitlement, which remains at 28 days. Therefore, employers can deduct one day of annual leave from employees if they take next Monday off if they would like to.

We recommend that all members confirm with their employers whether this day will be deducted from their annual leave entitlement. If it will be and you do not wish to have your holiday entitlement reduced, we recommend you contact your employer and confirm that you are available to work as normal on Monday 19th September. Your employer is entitled to give you two days of notice, requiring employees to take 19th September as annual leave (i.e. they need to let you know by Saturday 17th September). If your employer does not do this, but still seeks to reduce your entitlement, they will be in breach of Regulation 15 of the Working Time Regulations 1998.
