CAIWU Victory: Cleaner Rotation Stopped at King's Chelsea

CAIWU members at King's Chelsea in London have successfully stopped plans to rotate cleaners between buildings and working areas. Following the union's intervention, management confirmed that workers will retain their existing allocations and duties.

Cleaners Defend Their Established Working Areas

CAIWU members at King's Chelsea in London have secured an important victory after successfully challenging management's plans to rotate cleaners between different buildings and working areas.

Following CAIWU's intervention, King's Chelsea Estate Management Limited (KCEML) confirmed in writing that the proposed rotation will not be implemented at this stage. Cleaners will continue working in their existing areas, with their current allocations and duties unchanged.

The decision represents a significant achievement for workers who organised collectively to defend their established working arrangements.

Standing Together Against Unwanted Changes

Some cleaners at King's Chelsea had worked in the same areas for six years or longer before management proposed moving them between different buildings.

Workers raised concerns about the lack of meaningful consultation and reported being pressured to accept the changes.

CAIWU challenged the proposals and demanded their withdrawal, defending workers' right to have a say in decisions affecting their working lives.

A Victory for Collective Organisation

In addition to maintaining existing working arrangements, KCEML confirmed that any future proposed changes would be communicated to affected employees in advance and subject to appropriate consultation.

The company also confirmed that workers would not face adverse treatment for engaging in lawful trade union activities.

This outcome demonstrates what cleaners can achieve when they stand together, challenge decisions affecting their working conditions and organise through their trade union.
