Communications volunteers

We are looking for people interested in photography, videography, graphic design and social media to help document collective action, events and solidarity campaigns, and amplify workers’ voices.

CAIWU is looking for volunteers to join our Communications Team and help us document, communicate and amplify the struggles and achievements of our members.

Our communications work plays an important role in CAIWU’s campaigns. From documenting workers taking collective action to producing content that brings workplace issues to a wider audience, our volunteers help make sure that workers’ voices are seen and heard.

Who are we looking for?

We welcome people interested in developing or contributing skills in:

  • Photography

  • Videography and video editing

  • Graphic design

  • Social media and content creation

You do not need to specialise in every area. We are interested in hearing from people with different creative skills, backgrounds and levels of experience who want to use those skills to support workers and trade union campaigns.

What could you work on?

As a Communications Volunteer, you may have the opportunity to photograph or film picket lines, protests and demonstrations; cover CAIWU members’ meetings, training and community events; produce graphics and campaign materials; create content for our social media channels; and help document important moments in our members’ campaigns.

This can include being on the frontline when workers take collective action, helping us tell the stories behind campaigns for better pay, safer working conditions, equality and dignity at work, as well as documenting solidarity campaigns organised by other trade unions and organisations that CAIWU supports, including those that have stood in solidarity with our members and campaigns.

What will you gain?

Volunteering with CAIWU gives you the opportunity to gain practical experience while contributing to work with real social impact.

You can build your portfolio, have your work published across CAIWU’s communications channels, gain experience working on live campaigns and events, develop your creative skills and meet other people interested in communications, workers’ rights and social justice.

Most importantly, your work will help workers tell their own stories and bring greater visibility to the issues they face.
