CAIWU is looking for volunteers to lead workshops and learning activities that help our members develop their knowledge, skills and confidence.
Our programme includes practical workshops on employment rights and workplace issues, as well as monthly language exchanges that give members an opportunity to practise languages, learn from one another and connect with other members of the union.
Who are we looking for?
We welcome people with relevant knowledge, professional experience or practical skills who would like to share what they know with our members.
You should be able to communicate clearly, make your subject accessible to people with different levels of knowledge and create a welcoming environment where members feel comfortable participating and asking questions.
Employment and workplace workshops
We are particularly interested in volunteers who can lead practical workshops on subjects such as:
- Employment rights and employment contracts
- Health and safety at work
- TUPE transfers
- Redundancies and restructuring
- Disciplinary and grievance procedures
- Discrimination and equality at work
- Working hours, rest breaks and holiday entitlement
- Pay, deductions and minimum wage rights
- Sickness absence and workplace procedures
- Dismissal and unfair dismissal
- Trade union rights and workplace representation
- Raising concerns and dealing with problems at work
We also welcome proposals for other employment-related topics that could be useful to our members.
Monthly language exchanges
CAIWU also runs monthly language exchanges where members can practise and develop their language skills in an informal and supportive environment.
We welcome volunteers who can help lead and facilitate these sessions, encourage conversation and participation, and create activities that help members practise speaking and communicating with confidence.
What will you gain?
Volunteering as a workshop lead gives you an opportunity to share your knowledge and skills while contributing directly to CAIWU’s work with its members.
You can gain experience delivering sessions to diverse groups, develop your teaching, facilitation and communication skills, and contribute to activities that help workers understand their rights, develop new skills and connect with one another.
Interested in volunteering?
If you are interested in leading a workshop or supporting our monthly language exchanges, tell us a little about yourself, the subject or language you would like to lead, and any relevant professional, academic, teaching, training or practical experience.
